2011 BET Awards was surely a success with Chris Brown raking four awards and honoring artists Clarence Clemons, Gil Scott Heron, Nate Dogg and Teena Marie and awarding Lifetime Achievement Award Patti LaBelle.

What became 2011 BET Awards most memorable is its awkward moments.

It was announced by Tiffany Green, an amateur who was herself a contest winner first that Chris Brown won the Coca Cola’s Viewer’s Choice award, and later corrected by her celebrity handlers that it was his ex, Rhianna, who won. Yikes

“This is awkward,” said Terrence J, one of the two hosts of “106 & Park,” who brought the fan out to read the recipient’s name from an electronic pad, said to be a big advancement from envelopes.

Today, BET president Stephen Hill has been forced to apologise to Chris Brown after his ex-girlfriend Rihanna was given the Viewers’ Choice gong by mistake at the BET Awards on Sunday evening.

Hill also tweeted,

“That BET Awards Viewer’s Choice mix-up was due to human error. And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected.”

Nicki Minaj, herself was also being blamed and had to defend using Twitter after the mishap, posting on the social networking site: “Bawling backstage. They totally f***ed me up.”
