Atty. Rivera’s slams NUJP in open letter; asks Duterte supporters to put journalist’s union in its proper place

Let’s face it! Mainstream media hates President Duterte judging by the news articles they posted since he assumed the presidency.

Wait! They have never been fair to President Duterte during the campaign period for the 2016 presidential election.

Why? Let’s watch the video below to understand where President Duterte’s disdain to mainstream media is coming from.

Moving forward, the NUJP (National Union of Journalist of the Philippines) reacted on Duterte’s video wherein Duterte ranted against ABS-CBN and the Philippine Daily Inquirer via an open letter posted on its website.

Statement
March 30, 2017

Mr. Duterte, your mouth is getting the better of you!

Your incoherent and foulmouthed rant against two of the country’s major media outfits – the Philippine Daily Inquirer and ABS-CBN – was not only unwarranted, it was absolutely twisted.

Mawalang-galang subali’t napakalinaw na kayo po, at hindi sila, ang bastos. It was a brazen abuse of your immense power as chief executive of this land and only shows how little, if any, appreciation you have of democracy and governance. It is a mindset of the petty tyrant who mistakenly believes public office is an entitlement that allows you to flaunt the laws of the land that both grant you power and ensure the checks that prevent you from abusing that power.

No, Sir, we have learned enough to know that to ask you for an apology or to even come to your senses is an exercise in futility. But one thing we can assure you of, Sir, your curses and your threats cannot and will not prevent us, the community of independent Filipino journalists, from fulfilling our duty to inform the people as best we can of what is happening to our country, whether you agree with what we report or not.

The open letter addressed to President Duterte did not make Atty. Bruce Rivera very happy.

The staunch supporter of President Duterte took to Facebook to slammed NUJP in return via his own open letter addressed to NUJP. Check it out below.

TO THE NUJP:

“After PRRD hurled invectives at Inquirer and ABS-CBN, National Union of Journalists of the Philippines Secretary General Dabet Panelo made a statement calling the President “bastos” and a “petty tyrrant” while promising that they will continue to report the “truth”.

For me, this only shows the arrogance of mainstream media and justifies the need to change the definition of journalism in the Philippines. The same arrogance that caused the indefinite suspension of Mocha because some Yellows hiding under the cloak of media practitioners used their KBP badge and prevented Mocha from speaking her mind.

Mr. Panelo, hindi porke’t nagmumura kami ay bastos na. That is hypocritical and worst, fallacious. There are so many “disente” and prim individuals that do not curse pero ambabastos nila.

The NUJP should be aware that when they called President Duterte “bastos”, it is calling the 16 million Filipinos who voted for him “bastos” as well. So, I am asking all those who voted for the President to put the NUJP in its proper place.

“Putang-ina niyo, you are not above the President because he has the support of the people. So you have no right to speak to our constitutionally-elected President in such manner because we elected him and gave him the right to be bastos to the ills of this society, you included. We did not give you the mandate to be disrespectful and untruthful. Hence, your arrogance deserves our wrath.

The reason why people rely on social media bloggers like me for information is not the President’s doing. It is an indication that mainstream media and journalistm in general have lost its credibility. But instead of self-introspection, the NUJP resorts to self-denial and ad hominem attacks. Hence, this should be the impetus to call out for an overhaul in the regulation of the Fourth Estate.

The Filipino people gave media the power to inform and influence. It did not include the right to be arrogant to the Filipino people.

Punyeta!!!!”

Atty. Bruce Rivera’s post has been well-applauded on social media as his message resonates with like-minded netizens. Doubt it? Well, you can check out the reactions of his post.

As of this writing, the open letter to NUJP has gathered 2612 shares, 7,921 reactions and 682 comments 11 hours it was published and counting.

Meanwhile, a meme showing who’s who in NUJP has been making the rounds online. See the pic below.
