Cancer-stricken Teen Sells Kamote to Save Money for Own Chemotherapy, Refuses Donations

Cancer is certainly something that one should not joke about but there have been a number of individuals who use the term to gain sympathy from people so they can receive donations, supposedly for chemotherapy.

But one young lad who has cancer is trying his best to sell kamote (sweet potato) to save money for his own chemotherapy! The unnamed teen is said to sell his food items at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) area where he could be seen on an almost daily basis.

While there were a number of people who were skeptic over this young lad, saying he is just trying to scam people of their hard-earned cash, some netizens who have actually encountered him at BGC said that they tried to give him extra money after learning that he has cancer but the vendor refused.

For instance, netizen Jr Dimaano wrote in the comments section of the post shared by Facebook page Filipino Tweets That Matter, “Nakabili na ko ng kamote dito. Tapos binibigyan ko ng extrang 200 hindi niya tinanggap. Di daw siya tumatanggap ng ganong tulong gusto niya bilhin lang kamote na paninda niya.

(I bought sweet potato from him. I tried giving him an extra Php200 but he didn’t accept it. He said he does not receive donations but only wants people to buy the food he’s selling.)

Still, while there were a lot of skeptics saying this was surely a scam and that he doesn’t look like someone with cancer, many also defended the teen saying that whether he had cancer or not and just scamming people is his burden to carry but because he refuses to accept donations, then he’s not really harming the people he’s trying to sell his kamote…

What do you think?
