Disney-Pixar’s Cars 2 end up the weekend (June 24-26) box office with a $68 million opening. Cars 2 reviews from various movie critics sites like RottenTomatoes may seem so negative before the weekend was about to start.
Turns-out, the Cars 2 even beat its predecessor Cars which only earned $60.1M in 2006. Disney-Pixar tandems in animation industry were have been very successful, at least Cars 2 were able to beat the early negative reviews by toppping the box office.
For this weekend box office, aside from Cars 2 opened at topping the weekend box office, another newly opened movie followed at second place with yet not too close. Bad Teacher total sales is $31M putting them at number two, almost a half of Cars 2 sales. Starring Cameron Diaz, a story of foul-mouthed, junior high teacher who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague — a move that pits her against a well-loved teacher.
At number three is last week’s top placer, Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern fell down 2 places as it only earns $18.35M but about to reach the $100M mark in just two weeks. Another interesting part is, Green Lantern after credits extra scence which enticed viewers to long for more.
Following Green Lantern since last week is Super 8 which opens at number during its opening, second place on its second week and fourth this week. Super 8 weekend box office sale is $12.1M fells more than a half last week but total gross is already at $95.2M.
Wrapping up for our top five is Jim Carrey‘s Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Last week’s number 3 immediately fell down to number 5 last weekend box office.
