On Friday, February 10, 2017, the Philippine Daily Inquirer wrote that NDF Chairman Joma Sison has reached out to Duterte to revive the peace talks after it was ditched.
Here’s an excerpt of Joma Sison’s statement that appeared in the PDI article:
“I propose to him to consult thoroughly with his negotiating panel and the peace advocates in his own cabinet and others outside of his government, and encourage and allow back-channeling efforts to clarify misunderstandings and solve immediately the current problems,” Sison said.
“Even if the armed conflict between the armed forces of the two parties has resumed, peace negotiations can and must continue precisely to continue with the forging of the CASER, CAPCR and the bilateral ceasefire agreement and effecting the amnesty and release of ALL political prisoners within 2017,” Sison added.
Journalist Ira Panganiban reacted on Facebook after learning Joma Sison has reached out to Pres. Duterte to continue talking peace despite the lifting of the ceasefire between the government troops and the NPA’s.
“This is the first time I hear Joma taking the initiative to pursue the peace process. Usually he is the one who wants to quit the table. Does he and PDuts know something many of us do not?” Panganiban wrote on Facebook.
Netizens have different reactions of Joma Sison’s overtures to Pres. Duterte.
