In case you’re wondering why de Lima has not been arrested in the senate building despite the issuance of a warrant of arrest, blame the senate president and senators.
When the word was out of de Lima’s impending arrest, Sen Kiko Pimentel said he won’t block the arrest of the lady senator.
“Dito papasok ang separation of powers… Hindi po dapat nakikialam ang ibang branches. So respeto lang po tayo.”
But he maintains that de Lima cannot be arrested when the senate is in the legislative session.
“Coordination na lang yan sa mga arresting officers. They cannot disturb and disrupt the proceedings. Sila (arresting officers) naman ang may gagawing krimen [kung iistorbohin] ang legislative session. [GMA NEWS]
Meanwhile, in a show of force, allies like Drilon, Aquino, Hontiveros and Pangilinan joined de Lima at her Senate office, for what? To prevent the CIDG from nabbing her in the senate building?
Pangilinan insisted on his Facebook wall that de Lima’s arrest is illegal.
We maintain that the RTC has no jurisdiction over the case and that the arrest is illegal. We urge the Court of Appeals to immediately decide on the pending petition questioning the jurisdiction of the RTC.
Although, it has not been implied, but the actions of the senators show otherwise… They are protecting their own.
If we read Katrina Ponce-Enrile’s latest post, serving a warrant of arrest in the senate hall is full of crap. Read why below!
My father, Juan Ponce Enrile was arrested in the plenary hall of the old Senate building along Taft Avenue in 1990 while the Senate was actually in session during former President Cory Aquino’s term and it was then Secretary of Justice Franklin Drilon who manufactured a nonexistent crime of conspiracy complex with murder. I was there to witness how they took my father out of the Senate halls and how they brought him first to the National Bureau of Investigation with no less than Alfredo Lim leading the arresting team. The only Senator who accompanied my father and I to the NBI was then Senator Joseph Ejercito Estrada… now I hear Senator Leila De Lima saying that she hopes that the police authorities respect the halls of the Senate and not arrest her there. I have nothing against the lady Senator. I actually know how it feels being in that situation. I will pray for Senator De Lima. But it’s been done before…
