Marikina Teacher Goes Missing, Cousin Finds His ‘Death Announcement’ on Facebook

A teacher at APEC Schools Marikina in Marikina, Metro Manila went missing last Sunday, February 5 – but while his family is actively looking for him and hoping he is still alive, a cousin finds his ‘death announcement’ on Facebook.

When Paul Anthony Miranda Esguerra went out last Sunday, he told his partner Michelle Marie Mendoza that he was attending a birthday party and had appointments with different friends. Mendoza revealed that he first went to his family home in Project 4, Quezon City and went out wearing maong pants, a checkered polo, and black leather shoes.

But he would later go missing – and his cryptic posts on Facebook led netizens to believe he had taken his own life or might be in really deep trouble.

In a series of posts that only his Facebook friends could view, Esguerra wrote at 10:42PM on February 5, “Goodluck looking for my corpse. I love you guys. Bye. Bye.” It was accompanied by a heart emoticon.

Just a few minutes later, he posted, “Deep waters. Manila Bay. Dead is the new sexy.” But netizens couldn’t imagine him getting to the middle of the bay, in deep waters as he wrote, without assistance of some sort since he would surely need a boat for that.

Esguerra’s sisters confirmed that he’s been missing since Sunday, February 5. While the incident has been reported to the authorities, his family has also taken to Facebook to ask help from netizens as they hoped that he’s still alive and just ‘hiding’ somewhere.

His last known whereabouts was in Nangka, Quezon City as indicated by his last Facebook posts.

As of press time, there are still no leads to the case and the family continues to ask netizens for help in locating Esguerra. We all hope he was just joking about the cryptic messages and that he will be found soon, alive!
