A mother of a shabu-addicted daughter opened up her pain in response to Callamard’s tweet that no evidence shows shabu causes brain damage.
Netizen Carmelita Sandal Ybañez-Mangubat took to Facebook to speak up against Callamard’s claim that shabu is harmless.
Speaking from personal experience, Mangubat said that she went through the agony of dealing with a daughter whose marriage failed after getting addicted to shabu, left a toddler because she was out of her mind.
According to Mangubat, having a shabu-addict daughter caused her not just emotional but financial strain as well.
But despite the odds, Mangubat announced that her daughter overcame drug addiction after getting herself treated by entering a drug rehabilitation facility.
She also said that her daughter landed a job in Saudi Arabia.

Don’t fool me Agnes! I know how it is to live with a shabu addicted daughter. Her marriage with an addicted husband failed. She left her toddler because she is out of her mind. It took me lots of time and money to restore her to her real self. It took me a long while to send her to rehab BECAUSE of that human rights law. I can’t put her in rehab unless I have a medical certificate that she has lost her mind to drugs. It took me a long time and money to get to court to approve my petition for her rehab. At last I did and found out then she was admitted as a PATIENT. She was in rehab 6 months and now she is gainfully employed after being sober for more than 10 years. That human rights law deprived me of helping her at the right time before damaged to her marriage could have been prevented. Going through that, I felt compassion on parents who can’t go to court, spend time and money for that petition. That’s my experience with the shabu addict and the law. So sad parents are deprived of their right to help just to give children their right to exist, but then become a menace to family and unproductive citizen of the country. So sad really!
