In a recorded video message to the 60th meeting of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna Austria, Robredo talked about ‘palit-ulo’ scheme.
The video message generated backlash against Leni Robredo on social media for putting the country in a bad light.
Netizens criticized Robredo of failing to clarify with the PNP regarding her ‘palit-ulo’ accusation before making it public.
The Robredo camp claimed that the OVP (Office of the Vice President) wrote a letter to DILG Secretary Sueño reporting the ‘palit-ulo’ scheme of some police scalawags.
Robredo explained in the video message that ‘palit-ulo’ scheme is when the police arrests the family members or a relative of the drug suspect after failing to nab their target.
Going back to the Robredo letter to the DILG, it appears that Leni lied about reporting ‘palit-ulo’ to the DILG.
This came to light after the Robredo letter to DILG surfaced on social media.
La Salle professor and political analyst Antonio Contreras was one of the firsts to condemn Robredo on social media.
“Leni said that she wrote a letter to DILG to report “palit ulo.” Here is her letter which was published by Manila Bulletin. She lied.”
After reading the letter, I found no mention of the ‘palit-ulo’ scheme as claimed by Robredo that she reported the matter to the DILG.
In the Robredo letter, the OVP asked the office of the DILG to furnish them with the copies of a couple of documents namely: Command Memo Circular No. 2016-16 establishing the Oplan Double Barrel, the latest reports relating to Operation Double Barrel, list of suspected drug personalities killed since the implementation of Oplan Double Barrel, list of deaths under investigation since the implementation of Oplan Tokang aka Oplan Double Barrel and lastly, list of deaths in cases where investigation has concluded since the implementation of Oplan Double Barrel.
On Twitter, the Robredo letter elicited angry reactions from netizens.
@tontoncontreras So – a) there was a letter, b) nothing in there about the alleged VP’s claims.
The OVP must hate social media now.
