Towards the end of the term of former President Aquino, the existence of the “bridge without a river” in Southern Leyte scandalized the social media.
Turned out, it has a twin found in another province in the Visayas. Guess where that bridge without a river is located?
Yes, in Capiz!
The existence of the ‘bridge without a river’ was personally announced on Facebook by DA Sec. Manny Piñol today, March 16, 2017.
In fairness to the previous administration, this has been going on since time immemorial. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.
Please read the full text of Sec. Piñol’s Facebook post below.
“On the way to the Biyaheng Bukid Forum in Sigma, Capiz early today, I saw one of the monuments of wastage of government.
There is a bridge between the towns of Mambusao and Sigma which not only looks like a tower but also does not span a river.
Passing beside it, there was only a small pond which could just have needed a box culvert.
The bridge has been towering there for years now and vehicles just pass beside it.
With its height, I dont believe it will ever be used at all.
Sigma Mayor Christopher Andaya said the Mambusao-Sigma Towering Bridge is.not the only multi-million infrastructure which were constructed but never utilized.
He cited another bridge which he said was constructed and completed which just sits in the middle of nowhere because there.is no road.
There are many other structures similiar to this all over the country which serve not only as monuments of corruption but sheer stupidity.
In my home province, a bridge was built in Makilala, North Cotabato to provide a bew span for the Saging River.
It has been completed for almost a decade now but it has never been used.
The reason: the project implementors failed to settle the Right of Way payment.
If that is not stupidity, I don’t know what is.”
