We see lots of things on Facebook — from screenshots of texts to photos of unbelievable things — but what happens when you see a strange status that seemingly predicts death? It may sound like a hoax, but we assure you — this is very real.
This is the strange case of Paul Anthony Miranda Esguerra, a teacher in Marikina who posted death-related stuff on the evening of February 5. Ever since that day, he has been declared missing. Neither his friends nor family know his whereabouts.
Esguerra, age 26, graduated from the prestigious University of the Philippines as a History major. He’s currently molding young minds in APEC Schools Marikina, where he teaches.
If you look at his Facebook timeline, he doesn’t seem like the type of person who would have deep-seated emotional troubles. His pictures clearly show him as someone who has a lot of things on his plate.
Esguerra was even presented in the recent rally that protested the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in the Libigan ng mga Bayani. But that particular night, however, the teacher started posting grim, horrible stuff about death.
He said in one of his statuses, “Dead is the new sexy.”
Crazy, right? Look at these:
You could clearly see that he posted those while he was in Nangka, Quezon City. His girlfriend, Michelle Marie Mendoza, said, “He told me that he will be going to a birthday party and have appointments with different persons/friends.”
“He went home first in his family residence in Project 4, Quezon City,” she continued. “By 5 p.m., he left wearing checkered polo, maong pants, and black leather shoes.”
Esguerra’s cousin, Gary Joran Mayoralgo, posted that they needed help in locating the teacher. According to his post on February 7, he said, “GUYS, I NEED YOUR HELP. My cousin Paul Anthony Miranda Esguerra (height 5’4,” age 26) has been missing since Sunday and none of his family and friends have been able to contact him.”
The post continued: “According to his family, he was set to go to one of his friends’ party but has not gone home since then. His last known whereabouts based on his latest recent Facebook posts are either Manila Bay. Nangka Marikina or Cubao.”
The most heartbreaking thing that Mayoralgo posted was this: “Paul, please come back. We’re really worried.”
