Teacher Posts Heartbreaking Plight of Poor Student Asking for Help after Mom Died of Breast Cancer

A teacher received a heartbreaking note from one of her students, asking for help after their mom died of breast cancer – and it would turn into a heartwarming story of love and compassion from strangers on the internet.

Chinke May Delmo Paculanang, a teacher at Escalante Central Elementary School in Escalante, Negros Occidental in central Philippines, posted how one of her students handed her a note one day. It read, “Maam, Good morning, pwede maka pangayu ug tabang Maam biskan gamay lang.” (May I ask for help, even just a small amount?)

Ma’am Paculanang later learned that the student’s mother had died of breast cancer. She recalled the many times the student would cry in school for no apparent reason as well as the days when the child would be absent because there was no one to care for her mother and 1-year-old sister.
