Over the last few years, 81-year-old, Roberta has had a daily ritual. She likes to walk down to her driveway and then walk back up. It may not seem like much to young people but for Roberta it’s plenty of exercise.
However, on 3/18/2016, something strange happened. Roberta went out for her daily walk and never came back. Her family began to worry because Roberta suffers from dementia. They feared that she may have gotten lost.
Roberta’s family immediately dialed 911. Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to their call by sending five police officers to look for her. Officer P. DeBoe, C. Caywood, B. Morrison, Sgt. C. Black, and Cpl. C. Clevenge began searching through the heavily wooded neighborhood.
After 40 minutes of searching, Roberta was spotted walking alone in the woods.
At first, she seemed confused at the sudden appearance of police officers on the tree-lined trail, and she asked if the officers were out taking a walk too. They quietly replied ‘Yes,” after all, it was a beautiful day. And then she seemed relieved and told them she had lost her way. “No problem,” said Officer Morrison who then gently took her hand and, along with the other officers walked her back to her house. — Writes the Charles County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.
