Meet Mr. Brown. He works as a teacher at Skagit County Juvenile Detention Center in Washington. As you can probably imagine, his job is by no means considered easy.
Mr. Brown is responsible for educating teenagers that live on the fringes of society. He has students that are serving time for burglary, drugs, gang related activities, and so much more.
So, how does Mr. Brown motivate those that have resisted education for most of their life? The answer is quite simple, he shows his students that he actually cares about them. So much so, Mr. Brown is willing to go to extreme lengths to make sure they graduate.
Recently, one of his former students, Cesar Medina, shared with the world what Mr. Brown did for him. The story wound up being so good that it went viral on Facebook. People from all across the United States are having their hearts melted by it.
“This is Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown is the teacher at Skagit County Juvenile Detention Center. When I was 15 and in school in the Juvie, somehow, someway, the conversation came up that he has been to graduations for past inmates with pizza and other crazy stuff. I told him he needed to come to my graduation in a dress!
He laughed and said, ‘Cesar I’ll even jump up and down and say that’s my son!’ I simply said OK and went on with my day. I never went back to Juvie. Almost 3 years later (yesterday) I called him and gave him the news.
Mr. Brown kept his word like a real man would and showed up in a beautiful dress! With his wife behind the camera, I thanked them for coming and showing me love. Against all odds I made if from Emerson back to the High School and graduated with only 5 1/2 credits starting junior year!! Anything is possible if you try!”
For most people, it would have been very easy to give up on these troubled kids. However, Mr. Brown isn’t like most other people. He actually cares and that could be the key to truly helping them.
Pass on the smiles. Share this story with your friends and family.
