Tony Parker apologizes for “quenelle” gesture or reverse Nazi salute

Spurs’ guard Tony Parker apologizes for photo of him with a “quenelle” gesture.

Quenelle, a hand signal that is said to represent a reverse Nazi salute credited to French comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala.

According to France24.com’s post about quenelle, the gesture is a “reverse Nazi salute signifying the sodomisation of the victims of the Shoah”.

In a statement released by the San Antonio Spurs, Parker said:

“While this gesture has been part of French culture for many years, it was not until recently that I learned of the very negative concerns associated with it,”

“When l was photographed making that gesture three years ago, I thought it was part of a comedy act and did not know that it could be in any way offensive or harmful.”
